Edith Grant (born August 17, 1973), known by her professional name Edie Lanchester, is an English director, producer, writer and actor. She is known for directing the horror film Hostel and its sequel Hostel: Part II. She is also known for her role as Bridget von Hammersmark in Quentin Tarantino's war film Inglourious Basterds for which she won both a SAG Award (Best Ensemble) and a BFCA Critic's Choice Award (Best Acting Ensemble). Journalists have included her in a group of filmmakers dubbed the Splat Pack for their explicitly violent and bloody horror films. Lanchester is the only female member. In 2013, Lanchester received the Visionary Award for her contributions to horror, at the Stanley Film Festival.

Early Life Lanchester was born and raised in Oxfordshire, England to nurse Kate Grant and finance director Andy Grant. Her maternal grandparents emigrated from Austria and raised her mother Jewish while her father's parents were spiritualists. Lanchester describes her childhood home as non-denominational. She began making films at the age of ten, having fallen in love with horror two years earlier when she saw An American Werewolf in London (1981). With the help of her younger brother Warren, Lanchester made over 70 short films before leaving secondary school and attending the London Film School. She graduated in 1993 with an MA in Filmmaking.
